Local Law Enforcement
Around fifty vehicles have been covered with what appears to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Vehicles, walls and mailboxes were defaced, in some cases with swastikas, they stated in a statement.
Officers report they were contacted during the night on Wednesday, when a individual observed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish substance.
The fluid had been placed in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Law enforcement then discovered many other marked cars and house walls in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under laws outlawing the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Police report early analysis suggest the substance was likely human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no indication as to its source; authorities are presently not cognizant of any injuries in connection with the event," they stated.
Local authorities announced they were trying "to unravel the mystery" and have requested to the community for tips.
A senior official stated the vandalism made him without words and required to be addressed rapidly.
"This event hits the core of Hanau and revives the pain of the right-wing terrorist attack five years ago," he wrote on online, recalling the death of nine victims by a assailant aiming at residents of migrant background in 2020.
