Micky van de Ven scored on two occasions as Spurs extended their winning streak on the road in the Premier League and delivered the Toffees their first defeat at their new home.

The Toffees were undefeated in their last five matches at their recently opened stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock, having left Goodison Park behind after more than a century at the end of the previous campaign.

But Spurs captain the Dutchman pounced on two occasions from set-pieces in the opening 45 minutes to place their impressive record at risk, and they were failed to turn it around before the midfielder - set up by ex-Everton forward Richarlison - headed home a third to seal the victory.

The Everton defender believed he had levelled the tally five minutes after the defender's first goal, glancing a powerful header past Guglielmo Vicario from an Everton corner.

The Portuguese striker, meanwhile, missed a handful of chances, while the Italian goalkeeper made a series of excellent stops to guarantee Tottenham went five away games without defeat in the English top flight.

But the VAR intervened, instructing the match official to review the goal on the screen and the referee decided that the winger and the attacker were in offside positions and had impeded with the Tottenham goalkeeper.

This victory moves the manager's team into third place in the division, five points off local foes and leaders the Gunners.

Everton remain in 14th position and sit half a dozen points ahead of the relegation zone.

Spurs breakdown: Van de Ven excels in duties at both ends of pitch

Following a drab midweek display in the European competition against Monaco, where they managed a only attempts on target, Frank chose Randal Kolo Muani in attack instead of former Toffees player the Brazilian.

The summer signing was failed to make much of an impact before being replaced for the substitute after 60 minutes on the field, but it turns out he wasn't needed in the final outcome.

Defender Van de Ven converted into an offensive threat to be reckoned with.

Spurs' opening strike came from a well-worked corner routine, with Rodrigo Bentancur heading the ball toward the six-yard box for an free Van de Ven to score.

And the captain - stepping up as skipper in Cristian Romero's unavailability - added his next goal in first-half stoppage time as he rose above the England keeper to nod in.

Van de Ven was just as impressive in defensive duties, partnering well with his defensive colleague as the pair dealt superbly with the 34 crosses sent their way by the opposition.

Toffees breakdown: Everton lacking striker's instinct

Everton's recent stadium had been a fortress, but it seems the novelty may have worn off somewhat and supporters headed to the gates after Sarr's third for Spurs.

The break in Everton's unbeaten home run will not be a massive concern for David Moyes, but their striker situation are.

Beto and Thierno Barry - the Toffees' two recognised strikers - had netted just a single goal combined before Sunday's outing.

And they were failed to add to that poor record on a damp and dreary evening on Merseyside.

Beto's performance was summed up when he chose to overhead kick a clear chance from near the goal, despite having space and opportunity to readjust for a more conventional attempt that would have tested the keeper.

Barry, too, failed to make an impact after coming on for the starter in the 65th minute.

It was not for a shortage of chance. Most of the home side's attacks came through the winger and the forward, who relentlessly delivered dangerous crosses into the Spurs penalty area.
